Materia announces EU-GMP certification in Malta
London, May 13, 2021—Materia, a medical cannabis and wellness company focused on the European market, announced today that its subsidiary Materia Malta Operating Ltd. ( »Materia Malta» or the »Company«) has received its European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification (»EU GMP«) from the Maltese Medicines Authority.
Materia – Making Cannabis Accessible Worldwide
EU GMPs are the global standard for pharmaceutical manufacturing and are mandatory for medical cannabis in most European jurisdictions. This certification will enable Materia to begin processing and exporting medical cannabis flower from Malta to European end markets, following the final post-certification steps in accordance with the authorization process. The company also intends to apply for a license amendment to process cannabis extracts in the near future, building on the comprehensive preparatory work already completed.
«Obtaining EU GMP certification in Malta marks our most significant milestone since we embarked on this project more than two years ago,« said Deepak Anand, CEO of Materia. «We look forward to hitting the ground running and demonstrating the full potential of a Malta-based cannabis processor to the industry, particularly to global partners seeking access to the European market.»
Nick Pateras, Materia’s Managing Director for Europe, added: »We are extremely proud to join the small group of cannabis companies with an EU GMP-certified facility. Our team in Malta has spared no effort to achieve this goal and has adapted exceptionally well to the circumstances of the past year, demonstrating why we consider it one of the best in the industry. Having successfully developed the European infrastructure we envisioned, commercialization is now our focus.»
Materia Malta will leverage its network of qualified supply chain partners to introduce a new, high-quality medical cannabis product to the European market, including in Germany through the pharmacy distribution channels of Materia Deutschland GmbH.
