A2W Pharma Ltd announces the creation of a new pharmaceutical facility in Malta
MARSA, Malta–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A2W Pharma Ltd, a pharmaceutical company based in Malta, is celebrating the opening of its new facility today with a launch ceremony at its premises. Miriam Dalli, Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Enterprise; H.E. Yu Dunhai, Chinese Ambassador to Malta; Peter Paul Farrugia, Director of A2W Pharma, Antonio Sommei, CEO of Amino Chemicals, and Kurt Farrugia, CEO of Malta Enterprise, as well as representatives from the Maltese Medicines Authority, spoke at the event.
A2W provides an end-to-end process, from raw materials to bottling, and has chemical and stability testing capabilities. The company has begun validating materials and methods and is expected to obtain its certificate of compliance with European GMP standards this summer. Its long-term vision is focused on developing botanical active ingredients for use in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products.
«The launch of A2W Pharma is part of our strategic vision to expand our operational capabilities in Malta in order to support our partners in the development of pharmaceutical formulations,» said Antonio Sommei.
The parent company, ABA Chemicals Corp (Shenzhen Stock Exchange 300261-CN: Shenzhen), has invested over €6 million through its API manufacturing facility, Amino Chemicals Ltd, to meet immediate demand for extracts certified to European GMP standards. Amino, also located in Malta, has 30 years of experience in the development of pharmaceutical APIs and brings its commercial and regulatory expertise to the table.
«Discoveries regarding the active compounds found in the cannabis plant and their therapeutic effects represent a shift in how patients with various conditions are treated. A2W’s vision is to increase access to these substances, while leveraging 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical development to ensure compliance with the strictest regulatory requirements,» said Tony Cai, President of ABA Chemicals.
A2W’s long-term strategy is based on the development of pharmaceutical products in therapeutic areas where there is a critical need to improve the quality of patient care. The medical cannabis sector, valued at $22 billion globally, is expected to continue its strong growth as more and more countries legalize its use by prescription to treat neurological and immunological disorders. The growth of this sector can be attributed to physician education and patient awareness of the benefits of medical cannabis.
«We are fortunate to have the support and expertise of ABA and Amino to help us achieve our goal of entering this new sector of pharmaceutical development, which we hope to enrich with our experience and capabilities,» said Peter Paul Farrugia.
