Weed manicures: the new beauty trend

The latest trend in California? Adding a little weed between your base coat and top coat to get a «weedicure»—a manicure with weed.

The first weedicure appeared in 2014 at a beauty salon in San Francisco, The Orchid Nail Lounge. A customer asked for a unique manicure for her presentation at Hempcon, a medical cannabis trade show. Instead of drawing the classic cannabis leaf, Lousiana Pham, the salon's owner, decided to incorporate real pieces of weed. Pham does not, of course, supply the cannabis herself, but now offers this service to customers who have a medical cannabis prescription.

The space manicure has since gained popularity, with many examples on Instagram. The process takes a little longer than a traditional manicure—two and a half hours—and costs between 45 and 65€, depending on the complexity of the design.

This trend has given rise to new types of “weedicure” and has been adopted by several California salons, featuring diamonds, 24-karat gold leaf, French manicures, and more…
