Newsweed to co-produce «The 100», the upcoming Netflix series about a high-security prison for drug traffickers

Netflix recently unveiled its next series, The 100 (The Hundred in its English version), which will dive into the daily life of an ultra-secure prison housing the 100 most dangerous traffickers in France. Inspired by the Recent statements by Gérald Darmanin, the pitch will be as follows:

«To combat the escalation of drug trafficking, the French government is launching «Project Clean State»: a high-security prison designed to incarcerate the country's top 100 drug traffickers. These are the masterminds, the untouchable kingpins of all origins who have dominated the underworld of narcotics for decades. The plan is simple: cut off the head of the snake by isolating them in a fortress where they can no longer operate their networks or influence those of others.

But what starts as a revolutionary crackdown quickly becomes a ticking time bomb. Behind the prison walls, these criminal masterminds, each with their own specialties, territories, and rivalries, quickly realize that together, they hold unprecedented power. Instead of dismantling the drug trade, the government has inadvertently created the perfect conditions for the ultimate cartel.

Alliances are forming, betrayals run deep, and prison becomes the epicenter of a sprawling drug empire, its operations now conducted from behind bars. Outside, law enforcement struggles to contain the fallout as the crime syndicate grows stronger, infiltrating every corner of society.

The series delves into the psyche of these criminals, exploring their cunning strategies, dark pasts, and moral boundaries. At the center of the chaos is Bruno Retaillebas, the idealistic prison director, whose initial pride in overseeing the Net State project crumbles as he realizes he has become a pawn in the smugglers» game and that the system meant to destroy evil is becoming its greatest facilitator.»

The series will be co-produced by Newsweed. The cast has not yet been announced, but the release is expected on April 20, 2026.
