Did Jesus use cannabis oil for his miracles?
More and more theological experts agree that cannabis was part of Jesus' healing rituals. In addition to throwing a spanner in the works of some religious figures, the acceptance of ancient uses of cannabis could help popularize its therapeutic use.
According to David Bienenstock, According to the historian, some of the miracles attributed to Jesus could be linked to cannabis. «Historical documents show that cannabis was widely available at that time, they knew how to grow it and exploit its medicinal properties.»
«There's no difference between the efficacy of cannabis oil today and what might have been available in Jesus» day, it's simply a matter of concentrating cannabis in the oil and absorbing it through the skin."
Exegetes even see a recipe for cannabis oil in the’Exodus 30: 22-25 Take of the best spices, five hundred shekels of myrrh, of that which flows of itself; half, that is, two hundred and fifty shekels of aromatic cinnamon, two hundred and fifty shekels of aromatic reed, five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. You shall make with it an oil for the holy anointing, a composition of perfumes according to the art of the perfumer; it shall be the oil for the holy anointing.»
casse«, translated in some French versions as »aromatic reed«, is the translation of the Hebrew Keneh Bosem (or kaneh bosm), that the scientists now identify as most likely Cannabis. The recipe above would then give the equivalent of 4 kg of hemp flowers macerated in 6.5 liters of olive oil. The effects of such a solution, even when applied topically, would undoubtedly have been intense.
Exodus is not the only text to mention the «aromatic reed", as it appears 4 other times in the Bible:
- In the Song of Songs
- Isaiah
- Jérémie
- Ezekiel
For Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at the Boston University, There is little doubt about the role of cannabis in the Judaic religion.«
«Obviously, the wide availability and long tradition of cannabis in early Judaism inevitably included it in [Christian] mixtures.»
In addition to claiming that Jesus used cannabis to heal, David Bienenstock asserts that he might even have used it himself: «Jesus himself was anointed, and if that anointing involved cannabis oil, he certainly used it.»
«When you examine the story of Jesus» anointing, it's described in terms of psychoactivity, of this profound experience that transforms him."
«It's a great indication of the centrality of anointing for Jesus and his apostles - whose name, incidentally, he would take. Christ is in fact a Greek translation of the Hebrew »messiah«, meaning »one who is anointed«.
