Génération Libre wants to bring cannabis legalization into the public debate

Génération Libre, an independent, liberal think tank founded by Gaspard Koenig, aims to bring the issue of cannabis legalization into the public debate.

To that end, the think tank decided to implement a collection jar, with an initial goal of €2,500. The funds raised will be used primarily for the production, printing, and distributing a report on cannabis legalization that will contrast two perspectives: Gaspard Koenig’s free-market approach and that of Francis Caballero, a lawyer known for his support of a state monopoly on cannabis.

The report is expected to be released before the end of April, and each contributor will receive rewards based on the amount of their donation.

Gaspard Koenig has spoken out on numerous occasions in favor of legalizing cannabis in France. In particular, he has shared his experience in one of his books the free market in Colorado, the U.S. state that has adopted the most liberal regulatory model. Regulation there is essentially driven by the market, which adjusts as it encounters problems. This was particularly the case for the’ban on cannabis candies that have shapes that are too appealing to children (teddy bears, cartoon characters, etc.)

He also strongly criticized the French government's proposed cannabis fine. In a column in Les Echos In an article titled «The Dangerous Prohibition of Cannabis,» he wrote, among other things:

«The recent parliamentary report on the «decriminalization» of cannabis, far from being a first step toward liberalization, as has been suggested, reinforces and exacerbates prohibition.»
