Firefly 2 gets a makeover: here comes Firefly 2+.
The Firefly 2+ looks a lot like the original Firefly 2. At first glance, the main difference is visual: the 2+ has a window that highlights the new logo. But it also features improved airflow and a €70 price cut. Currently priced at 259€, the new Firefly 2+ is a connoisseur's vaporizer and is once again affordable, with a nice working quality.
Same, same but different
The Firefly's magnetic lid is still there, as are the touch sensors on either side of the device. These trigger the heating of the device, and can be configured via the app, as can the temperature, to trigger heating when pressed simultaneously or by pressing a single sensor, as desired.
The body and lid of the 2+ are both made of magnesium alloy, and the viewing window is made of quartz. The heating chamber is made of a ceramic superalloy that works in conjunction with the borosilicate glass air duct to guarantee vapor purity. The Firefly 2+ has the build quality you'd expect from a top-of-the-range vaporizer.
Firefly 2+«s most remarkable feature is its »on-demand" heating: it heats up and cools down almost instantaneously. In fact, it's one of the only vaporizers on the market to offer this microdose feature, which means you can take a puff of vapor without consuming the entire oven, and resume at the same point 3 hours later.
The airflow has been enlarged by 33%, according to the manufacturer. There is less resistance to inhalation, but there is still room for improvement. The device needs to be cleaned often enough to maintain its efficiency. And it needs to be lightly stirred every 2-3 inhalations to get the best out of the dried herbs, which themselves need to be finely toasted to deliver their full potential.
A simple interface
With a light and two touch-sensitive buttons, the Firefly 2+ is simple to use, but you'll need the manual before you can change anything. Press both buttons at the same time to activate heating, and begin inhalation three seconds later. If you want to change the temperature, you'll either need to connect the smartphone app, or pick up the manual and learn the button commands.
And since Apple recently decided to remove including vaporizer applications, here's how to manually set the temperature on your Firefly 2+ :
1 click right button, then hold down 3 clicks left button, then the lights flash to indicate the currently selected temperature, then from 1 to 7 clicks left button to select the new temperature and release right button.
If you downloaded the app before November 15, on the other hand, it's still functional and will make settings easier. By default, the Firefly 2+ is set to 200°C, but can go from 160°C to 260°C for concentrates.
The Firefly 2+ comes with a stainless steel concentrate pad already installed in the bowl, ready to use for concentrates. Simply place the concentrate on the pad and heat up the Firefly for the tastiest results.
Who is this vaporizer for?
The Firefly 2+ is clearly designed for experienced vaporizer users who attach great importance to the flavor of dried herbs or concentrates. If this isn't the case, you'll find cheaper, easier-to-use vaporizers. Some will also complain about having to shake the vapo to guarantee complete vaporization of the oven, but this is fine with convection vaporizers.
Firefly 2+ comes with :
- the vaporizer
- a concentrate pad
- rechargeable and replaceable battery
- a loading dock
- USB-C 3.0 cable
- 3 cleaning wipes
- an instruction manual
