United States: Eaze to deliver CBD products to 41 states
California-based Eaze has built a reputation around its legal cannabis delivery services. Starting with an app, it has expanded to an online purchasing platform and now intends to offer more products with the option of ordering CBD products. Its new platform, called Eaze Wellness, will deliver 41 states.
This new wellness vertical offers creams, oils or capsules containing only cannabidiol allowing the company to expand its activities in a country where cannabis is still classified as Schedule 1 is strictly prohibited at federal level.
The CBD market in the United States
The legal status of CBD in the USA is unclear, but there is a fundamental difference between CBD extracted from cannabis and containing THC, and CBD extracted from industrial hemp, for which the THC limit is around 0.3%. Hemp is not not in itself legal at federal level but some states may authorize it up to a limit of 0.3%. CBD hemp extract is considered to have no psychoactive effects, so it is not in itself illegal.
The Californian company markets CBD and THC in California, but will only market products derived from CBD extracted from hemp in other states. Moreover Eaze Wellness will not even be available in California, where CBD regulations have yet to be finalized. California prohibits marketing CBD as a dietary supplement. The products Eaze Wellness will also not be available in Idaho, Michigan, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Ohio, Washington and Oregon. Their availability is independent of the legal status of cannabis in these states.
This extension heralds a unification of the American CBD market, a market estimated at 22 billion in the coming years. This market promises to be full of opportunities for cannabis entrepreneurs. Visit Hemp Business Journal predicts that it will increase by 700% by 2020 and compared to 2016. It is already generating hundreds of millions of dollars in sales.
