Colorado: Lyft to offer discounted rides for cannabis users
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has entered into a partnership with ride-sharing app Lyft and the Marijuana Industry Group to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of cannabis.
Until next April, cannabis consumers will be able to take advantage of a reduced price to get around after consuming.
The operation had already been proposed on April 20 last year, and 3,000 Coloradans took advantage. The success of this campaign prompted the Colorado government to take the experiment a step further.
As part of this program, called 320 Movement, As part of the campaign, Colorado dispensaries will receive kits to educate consumers about the dangers of driving under the influence of cannabis, and promote the use of ride-sharing apps like Lyft via discount codes. The number 320 is a reference to the fact of planning one's means of locomotion 1 hour before one's 4.20pm sesh.
«Despite the fact that cannabis impairs judgment, coordination, decision-making and reaction time, an alarming number of users, 55%, still believe it is safe to drive under the influence of marijuana,» explained Sam Cole, CDOT communications manager.
There is still much debate about the impact of cannabis and driving. And even if it's proven that cannabis affects drivers less than alcohol, there's still an effect.
«Our request is simple» explains Krist Kelly, Executive Director Marijuana Industry Group. «If you choose to use cannabis legally, plan ahead and don't get behind the wheel».
