Has underwater cannabis really been discovered in Chile?
Fact or fiction? Two years ago, while fishing off the coast of Chile, a Chilean-born fisherman discovered an underwater cannabis field. This «underwater weed» has never been seen in the wild before, and the find is said to be miraculous, according to an article published on the website Worldwide Marijuana Seeds.
A man was reportedly fishing for turbot when he caught an unidentified form of vegetation. Marine biologists from Chile's Aquaculture Centre then identified strains of cannabis sativa. These varieties were named «Amigo de pescador», which means «fishermen's friend».
Camilla Roja, a biologist at the center, reported: «This is very unusual! I'm convinced that the strains found at sea have a low THC content, but that they are female plants. Cannabis cultivation in Chile is one of the oldest in the world, so I'm not particularly surprised that something like this could happen.
Fake news
After a quick check, there's no mention of this discovery on sites other than this seed seller's, nor is there any mention of the famous biologist. You don't need to be a botanist either to understand that hemp grows in the air, and that it would probably take enormous mutations for an underwater variety of hemp to develop.
We can also see that our Fuck Combustion have also come across the subject, and reached the same conclusion as us: fake news!
