Will California soon decriminalize psychedelics?
On November 10, Senator Scott Wiener announced that he would soon introduce legislation to decriminalize psychedelics in California.
Cannabis was a big hit in the last elections, and a few psychedelic bills were approved. Washington, D.C. has decriminalized psychedelic plants. and the’Oregon decriminalized all drugs and therapy with psilocybin, the main active substance in hallucinogenic mushrooms.
«These drugs have been shown to have medicinal value in treating depression, PTSD and other conditions,» Wiener tweeted. «We need to stop criminalizing drug use and addiction.»

Last June, Oakland, California, joined Denver, Colorado, in decriminalizing psychedelic substances such as psilocybin mushrooms.
«There is strong support for ending the failed war on drugs, which criminalizes communities of color and those suffering from addiction,» a declared Wiener. «People need treatment, not prison.»
Wiener mentioned that other California State Assembly members, Evan Low and Sydney Kamlager, have joined the group as co-sponsors of his proposal. One of Wiener's other goals is to establish safe injection sites in areas facing drug problems. The San Francisco Bay Area has a history of progressive drug reform policy, not only in California, but throughout the United States.
