United Kingdom: cannabis oil returned to epileptic 12-year-old Billy Caldwell
Billy Caldwell, age 12, had his salary confiscated a cannabis oil-based treatment for epilepsy upon his return from Canada, where he and his mother had gone to pick it up. Billy needs a specific ratio of THC to CBD to manage his epilepsy. The CBD is legal in the United Kingdom, but not THC.
Law enforcement have resulted in Charlotte Caldwell was given cannabis oil last Saturday after she revealed that Billy’s life was hanging by a thread following a series of violent epileptic seizures. Billy was also granted a 20-day authorization for his medical cannabis treatment.
Billy has been treated with cannabis since 2016 to reduce the frequency and severity of his epileptic seizures.
Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, admitted that the law wasn't «just» after the ministry The Ministry of the Interior seized Billy's medications at Heathrow Airport.
According to Home Secretary Sajid Javid, the British government is now expected to review the law on cannabis oil. The Home Office has not provided a timeline, but Jeremy Hunt said he hoped the review would take place «as soon as possible» and that he «sincerely hoped» it would not take months or years.
Since he got his medication back, Billy’s condition «has improved significantly.» He hasn’t had a single seizure since his anti-epileptic medication was returned to him and he started taking it again. This proves how effective his treatment is—and that mothers know better than the Home Office. We need to meet with Jeremy Hunt very soon.” explained Billy's mother.
