UK seizes CBD oil intended for 12-year-old epileptic child
The British Government «might as well have signed my son's death warrant». This is with these words that Charlotte Caldwell, mother of little Billy which we have already discussed here, explains what she has just experienced: the seizure by customs at Heathrow airport of CBD oil intended for her epileptic son.
Billy suffers from a severe form of epilepsy that causes up to 100 seizures a day. He and his mother had just returned from Toronto, where they had just completed 6 months of’cannabis oil to process Billy. The seizure took place on their return to Heathrow airport.
Charlotte Caldwell later declared that she was not discouraged by the government's action.
«I'm just going to go back to Canada and bring back more and I'm going to bring back more because my son has the right to have his anti-epilepsy treatment in his own country, in his own home,» she said.
«I'll tell you something: I'm not going to stop, we're not going to stop, we're not going to give up, we have love, hope and faith for our children and we're going to keep going,» she added.
Billy began treating himself with cannabis oil in the US in 2016. In 2017, he was the first person in the UK to receive a Department of Health prescription for medical cannabis, which expired last month, prompting mother and son to fly to Toronto.
Charlotte Caldwel puts all the responsibility on the shoulders of Nick Hurd, the British Home Secretary.
«It's an anti-epilepsy drug that Nick Hurd has confiscated from Billy, These are not recreational cannabis joints».
Billy Caldwell isn't the only child fighting for his right to medical cannabis. Alfie Dingley and Murray Gray, among others, share the same struggle.
Charlotte Caldwell is due to meet the Home Secretary on Monday.
