The time Robert Downey Jr. got caught smoking a joint on a gondola at Disneyland
As he was being presented with the Disney Legends, awarding women and men who have made an outstanding contribution to the Walt Disney Company, Robert Downey Jr. shared a funny anecdote last Friday: he was once arrested in a Disney park for smoking a joint during a gondola ride.
«Here's a little detail for you. The very first time I went to Disneyland, I was transported to another location, moments after my arrest,» Downey said, sparking laughter. «I was taken to a surprisingly friendly treatment center, cautioned, and sent back to a very disappointed group chaperone, if memory serves.»
«I've been a little ashamed of it for a while and decided to share it with you tonight,» he said. «I would like to make amends to anyone who has had to restrain me for smoking cannabis in a gondola without permission.»
«And I also don't want to imply that there are permits to smoke cannabis in the gondola or for any other attraction in the park,» added the Iron Man interpreter.
«Maybe for the Imagineers, But that's their own business,» he joked, referring to Disney's R&D team.
Robert Downey Jr. appears not to be the only celebrity to have broken the park's rules. Last year, former president Barack Obama confided that more or less the same adventure had happened to him when he was in high school. Recounting his misadventure, he limited his gesture to smoking cigarettes, all the while seeming to wink, triggering a few questions about the type of plants present in these cigarettes.
