Nevada to open cannabistros
In Nevada, high-end casino patrons and the legalization of cannabis don’t mix well. At least one detail is problematic in the law passed on November 8, 2016. Question 2, put before the state’s voters, only allows cannabis use in private spaces—meaning residents« homes and hotels for tourists. However, hoteliers and casinos are absolutely opposed to their rooms constantly smelling like weed. »Let’s be honest—people don’t want to spend 200 to 300 $ a night to smell weed, or to relax at a hotel while breathing in the smell of weed in the air,” says Pat Hickey who campaigned against legalization.
Feedback Control
While sales legal cannabis With the summer season approaching, local authorities are stepping up their efforts to find a place where cannabis enthusiasts visiting Las Vegas on vacation can consume the drug. To that end, local authorities have just passed a law authorizing the creation of cannabis clubs.
With 42 million visitors annually, cannabis entrepreneurs are looking to get a piece of Nevada’s tourism pie.
«Since Las Vegas is the Mecca of tourism, it’s absolutely essential to be part of the scene,« says Matthew Gardiner, vice president of a medical cannabis dispensary. »The solution is to have a lounge, a place to consume cannabis—a space where people can engage with and enjoy it,« continues Gardiner, who is planning educational tours of his business to attract tourists. »People will be able to come here and see the entire process on an industrial scale—something they’ve never seen before.”.
Consumption in Public Places
In this new law, the government is doing the event industry a favor. A company organizing a concert, an exhibition, a hairstyling contest, or even just a gathering of smokers can apply for a consumption permit from the municipality and the counties. To do so, they must plan events at more than 300 meters from a school, a church, a public swimming pool, or a drug rehabilitation center. These distances also apply to business owners who wish to open a cannabis bar.
While California has given itself until January 2018 to begin selling cannabis, Nevada hopes to start selling marijuana on the 1ster July 2017.
