Mexico's ex-president now works in the medical cannabis industry
The Canadian company Khiron Life Sciences, a Latin American market leader based in Colombia, has appointed former Mexican President Vicente Fox Quesada to its Board of Directors. He will act as strategic advisor and ambassador for the company's brand and interests throughout Latin America.

A strategic choice for access to the Mexican market
Medical cannabis is already legal in Mexico since last year. The recent accession to power of Mexico's new president, AMLO, also augurs well for the future. policy change about the recreational use of cannabis and a possible green wave in Latin America.
The former president's business and community investment, as well as his regional reputation, make him the ideal candidate to join the flourishing market Mexico and Latin America. As part of its regional strategy, the company wishes to establish a subsidiary in Mexico and apply for production licenses. It already holds all the necessary licenses for the cultivation, production, distribution and export of medical cannabis in Colombia, where its main operations are located.
Vicente Fox will be responsible for reviewing the regulatory and legal framework for medical cannabis in Mexico, and for assessing the needs of a market comprising some 11.7 million potential patients. This appointment is subject to approval by the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Common interests
Alvaro Torres, CEO of Khiron said, «after attending CannaMexico 2018 (...) it was clear to me that the collaboration between Khiron, President Fox and Centro Fox presented the opportunity to significantly advance our common interests in improving the level of education and understanding of the benefits of medical cannabis for all of Latin America (...) His appointment to our board significantly expands our reach and relationships in the Latin American market. What's more, this designation puts us in a strong position to facilitate our expansion plans into other strategic markets and our goal of becoming the dominant regional medical cannabis company in Latin America».
The president said: «For Centro Fox (...) this represents a great opportunity to fulfill our common dream of reducing the violence in Mexico caused by clandestine and illegal cannabis activities, and to move towards a legal industry that generates jobs and income for households, income and wealth creation for the government, and innovative and creative actions to strengthen the health of citizens and families».
