Khiron Life Sciences share price

Khiron Life Sciences is one of the few cannabis companies to have built its legitimacy on the clinic before commerce. Founded in Colombia and listed in Canada, Khiron has developed a vertically-integrated model that extends from Colombian plantations to its own medical clinics, telemedicine platforms and European distribution networks.

Alvaro Torres: from consultancy to cannabis clinic

The company is co-founded and led by Alvaro Torres, a Colombian entrepreneur who heads a multicultural team combining Latin American expertise with knowledge of European regulated markets. There is no romantic founding story at Khiron; Torres and his associates have applied a logic of patient and clinical development rather than speculation.

Khiron is the first company in Colombia authorized to grow, produce, distribute and export low and high THC medical cannabis products nationally and internationally. Its geographical advantage is central: Colombia enjoys constant sunshine, low labor costs and a favorable regulatory framework for exports, giving it a structural competitive edge over North American and European producers.

Clinics, telemedicine and medical training

Where most producers sell cannabis flowers or extracts to wholesalers, Khiron has built up a network of wholly-owned medical clinics (under the Zerenia brand) in Colombia and the UK, as well as a proprietary telemedicine platform. This patient-centric approach generates real-world clinical data on effects and dosages, which are used to provide training for prescribing physicians, a strong regulatory advantage in European markets.

Over 13,000 prescriptions were filled in Latin America prior to European expansion. In 2021, Khiron became the first Colombian company to export live cannabis clones to Europe - a world first - and began marketing its products in Germany via distributor Nimbus Health and its 300 partner pharmacies.

Khiron now has a commercial presence in Colombia, Peru, Germany, the UK and Brazil, and is preparing to enter Mexico.
