Jamaica authorizes online sales of medical cannabis
While coronavirus now seems to be hitting the Caribbean, the Jamaican government has announced that it will allow patients to order medical cannabis online. Patients will then have to visit herb houses to pick up their order.
The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) has implemented these temporary rules to limit the spread of the virus. Patients already registered with a cannabis dispensary will be able to order products online and pick them up in-store to «minimize the amount of time spent in these licensed facilities, thus limiting exposure to staff and patients».
The agency «is aware of the far-reaching effects of the pandemic and remains vigilant and proactive in taking steps to secure the industry,» said Faith Graham, CLA's Director of Enforcement and Oversight.
Thus, «the herb dung can be considered a business that offers retail services for the supply of medicine,» CLA said. «As such, any exemptions granted to such retail services under these ordinances may be considered applicable to medical cannabis retail houses.»

Cannabis exports lag behind
The cannabis export regulations, awaited by many local businesses, were due to be made public at the end of April. Audley Shaw, Jamaica's Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, has nevertheless declared that he could no longer «commit to a date» by which the document would be published, debated in Parliament and promulgated.
«Work is still ongoing to get the regulations completed». A large part, he says, has already been completed and «should be submitted to the Parliamentary Counsel's Office».
