Hawaii: first harvest of medical cannabis on the island
Aloha Green, Hawaii's first dispensary authorized to grow its own cannabis, has harvested its first flowers. The medical cannabis company based on Oahu, an island in Hawaii, announced last week that it had harvested its first cannabis crop successfully.
In Hawaii, the use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes has been legal since June 15, 2000, and is supervised by the Hawaii Department of Health, which is responsible for administering the medical cannabis program. This program, initiated by the Bill 228 on the decriminalization of medical cannabis,Its mission is to provide patients with the safety and treatment they need.
According to the local newspaper Pacific Business News, The harvest includes above-average yields of eight different cannabis varieties with varying levels of THC and CBD content«. Aloha Green must now wait for a laboratory to certify its harvest and product quality. Three facilities on the island, Pharmlabs Hawaii, Clinical Libs and Steep Hill Hawaii have applied for laboratory certification, but none has yet been approved.
«This is an important milestone for medical cannabis patients, and we are ready to meet their demand as soon as a test lab is available,» said Tai Cheng, COO of Aloha Green.
The Ministry of Health has obviously required cannabis dispensaries to test their products before marketing them, to avoid any traces of chemicals, mold or pesticides.
Since the 1ster July 2016, dispensaries across the country are allowed to sell their products despite delays in implementing seed-tracking software, which has prevented them from growing cannabis themselves until now.
