L’Hexahydrocannabinol fait partie des nouvelles molécules issues du chanvre et commercialisées dans les endroits où le THC est illégal, au même titre que le delta-8 ou le delta-10-tetrahydrocannabinol aux Etats-Unis (ces 2 molécules sont illégales en France).
Alors que le HHC a été découvert en rajoutant 2 atomes d’hydrogène à une molécule de THC, il est aujourd’hui produit à partir de CBD issu de chanvre, par un procédé chimique complexe.
Le HHC produit des effets psychotropes légers. Peu d’études ont été effectuées sur cette molécule. En 2007, des scientifiques ont testé du HHC sur des souris et ont constaté que le HHC prolongeait le temps de sommeil de 80 à 700 %. Les chercheurs ont également déterminé que le HHC montrait des effets similaires à ceux du delta-9-THC chez les souris, avec des effets pharmacologiques moins puissants.
