Switzerland authorizes out-of-catalogue hemp varieties
As part of the 2020 agricultural ordinance package, Switzerland has officially authorized, as of 1er From January 2021, hemp varieties with THC content <1%, not listed in the EU hemp variety catalog.
In addition to no longer limiting hemp to certain varieties, seeds and young plants of all hemp varieties with THC content <1% will be freely marketable in commercial agricultural cultivation and horticultural production, without any prior variety approval procedure.
The obligation to declare hemp cultivation in certain cantons is not affected by these changes, and will be maintained after 1 January 2009.er January. All other legislation on hemp, for example on its agricultural production or use as animal feed, will remain unchanged.
The Communauté d'intérêt Chanvre (CI Chanvre), behind the scenes this decision, welcomes these changes. They represent an important step in the development and consolidation of Switzerland's pioneering role in Cannabis.«
