Can you imagine Bruno le Maire tweeting photos of his cannabis plants? Not a chance. Tito Mboweni, South Africa's Minister of Finance, took the plunge a few weeks ago, calling for the legalization of cannabis as a means of generating new revenue.

However, the South African situation is less restrictive than in France. Personal consumption and cultivation of dagga have been authorized by a ruling of the South African Supreme Court in September 2018, their illegality having been recognized as unconstitutional.

Tito Mboweni is therefore free to grow cannabis at home if he has no intention of reselling it. There is also currently no limit on the quantity of plants authorized to grow or cannabis to possess.

In subsequent tweets, Mboweni hinted at legal advances on cannabis in 2020, with a possible proposal to legalize its commercial cultivation and distribution.

He had already published photos of his plants in January, with experts noting a nice evolution in the meantime.
