Shopify now accepts CBD sellers (in the US)
With a CBD market estimated at $22 billion by 2022 in the United States. And if Shopfiy already sells cannabis in Canada, So it's hardly surprising that he's doing the same in the United States.
Shopify announced yesterday that U.S. cannabidiol (CBD) sellers can now join the more than 800,000 merchants worldwide who use their platform. In concrete terms, this means creating a store on the company's platform, using its marketing tools and other applications for inventory management, logistics and personalized shipping for their customers.
The announcement comes on the heels of Shopify competitor BigCommerce's announcement a few weeks ago to offer e-commerce tools for CBD sellers.
Although CBD are allowed to create their online store, they will not be able to use Shopify's payment system, and will still be obliged to use third-party solutions.
Two CBD brands took part in the launch of this new e-commerce brick: Cannuka, sold at Ulta, and Josie Maran, sold at Sephora.
«Shopify's support for the CBD industry is a huge step forward», wrote Michael Bumgarner, founder of Cannuka, in a press release.
«A lot of people wanted to create online stores, but there was never a platform that could support what they wanted to do,» explains Loren Padelford, managing director of Shopify Plus. «We're coming in today as Shopify, and we're telling them that, in the same way that a clothing designer has access to it, you can also access it and create the same experiences direct-to-consumer The difference is that Shopify isn't going into CBD. It's CBD that's coming to retail. »
