Sacramento becomes the last Californian city to allow Cannabis lounges
Sacramento has joined the list of Californian cities that are opening their doors to Cannabis lounges establishments where cannabis consumption is legal. Following a close vote, the Sacramento City Council approved the licensing of« cannabis lounges» for adults only, the mayor Kevin McCarty who cast the deciding vote.
Last October, the governor of California Gavin Newsom enacted a law authorizing cannabic cafés throughout the state. The legislation, in force since January 1, allows licensed establishments not only to authorize consumption on the premises, but also to serve food and drink, and to organize live entertainment.
A new space for cannabis consumers
The introduction of cannabis lounges will offer consumers a safer, better-regulated environment. This measure is particularly important for renters who are subject to home consumption restrictions. In urban neighborhoods where tenants are in the majority and where it is smoking is often banned indoors, cannabis cafés could offer a long-awaited alternative.
This sentiment was echoed by Maisha Bahiti, local business owner and founder of the dispensary Crystal Nugs, a long-awaited opportunity:
«I think it's going to have a huge impact, not only for businesses, but also for our customers. We're in an area where there are a lot of apartments. and many tenants. There will be people who won't be able to eat at home,» she told the local media. KCRA.
These establishments will have to obtain specific permits and equip themselves with state-of-the-art ventilation systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Cities such as West Hollywood and San Francisco already have operational cannabis lounges and delivery services.
Economic and cultural impact
Proponents of the measure claim that cannabic cafés could provide economic benefits in Sacramento. Beyond creating jobs and boosting retail cannabis sales, these lounges have the potential to attract tourists and foster cultural events. With the ability to serve food, drinks and host live entertainment, the concept resembles the convivial atmosphere of European-style cafés, adapted to the Californian cannabic culture.
Sacramento's dense rental market and changing consumer habits make it an ideal location for the rise of cannabic cafés. Customers who can't consume at home will now have legal, welcoming spaces to enjoy cannabic products, socialize and participate in community activities.
