Oklahoma: governor confirms 2018 vote to legalize medical cannabis
Announced via the Governor's Twitter and Facebook accounts, Mary Fallin confirmed her intention to place the referendum on medical cannabis legalization in 2018, either in June or on the November ballot.
Many citizens have called + written the gov's office asking when I will set a date for putting SQ 788 (medical marijuana) on the ballot. This SQ can be put on either the June primary election or the Nov. general election of 2018. I will set the date after the new year. Thx-GMF

As we recently explained, the initiative to legalize medical cannabis in Oklahoma had initially gathered enough signatures in September 2016. The former state attorney blocked its appearance on the November 2016 ballot via a legal battle over the initiative's name. As the resolution of the dispute came after the November vote, voters were unable to cast an affirmative or negative ballot.
Governor Mary Fallin said she would decide on the final date after the new year.
If validated by the citizens of the state, the State Question 788 would legalize medical cannabis for authorized patients according to the following rules:
- patients must be aged 18 or over. Special authorizations for minors may be granted.
- possession will be limited to 84g of medical cannabis and 28g of concentrates on their person
- possession at home will be limited to 224g
- self-cultivation will be limited to 6 flowering plants and 6 growing plants
For consumers without a medical prescription, possession of more than 42g will be punishable by a fine of 400$.
The latest polls show 71% of the population in favor of legalizing medical cannabis in the state.
