Jacques Weber for the legalization of cannabis
Jacques Weber, a talented actor and director, spoke out in favor of legalizing cannabis on the French TV program «Les Terriens du Dimanche» on February 25.
He also took the opportunity to point out the absence of medical cannabis in France, despite numerous studies showing its effectiveness.
«First of all, I'd like to say that there are things we forget to say. In the hospital environment, it's still not possible, we can't treat certain things with cannabis, even though everyone has seen that for certain serious illnesses, it's an accompaniment that does a world of good, that relaxes people... But I think the right solution is to legalize cannabis, as is the case in many countries where it seems to be working very well, and I think it does indeed require an extremely important political responsibility in terms of support, it's very complex, but I think it's the right and only solution. »
Mr Weber, a guest on the show, answered a question put by Thierry Ardisson as part of Natacha Polony's «Cannabis: why should it be legalized?.
The latter, after pointing out the «absolute failure» of a highly repressive law, even though the country is one of Europe's biggest cannabis consumers, presented a report on Thomas Duchêne, founder of Plantasur, one of Europe's biggest grow shop wholesalers.
At the end of the report, Natacha Polony also expressed her support for the legalization of cannabis through a state-run network, with rather vehement arguments against cannabis: «God knows I'd never support it, because it's a scumbag that does enormous damage [...] Cannabis isn't harmless at all, it's not harmless. [...] Cannabis is not harmless at all, it's not harmless. It fries neurons, it can cause depression, and in people who are just a little fragile, it amplifies their malaise, it can trigger psychosis and schizophrenia, so it's absolutely not as festive as people make it out to be.»
Also around the table, Franz-Olivier Giesbert doesn't believe in the legalization of cannabis, while making it clear that he doesn't think there's a solution at all. He predicts that legalization would be a «catastrophe» for «the suburbs, the neighborhoods, where it's happening», and believes that we must first «solve the problem of youth through schooling, training, work» and «then we can deal with drugs».
For Hapsatou Sy, another of the show's hosts, a legal cannabis industry would not prevent certain networks from coexisting and continuing to offer cheaper cannabis or cannabis for minors.
Newsweed presents these sequences below (for Jacques Weber, from 9’32 onwards.
