[Interview] Amsterdam Genetics launches Supmedi, its CBD range

Newsweed: Hi Amsterdam Genetics. You were already selling unique strains and working with many coffeeshops in Amsterdam. What prompted you to move into CBD with Supmedi?

Amsterdam Genetics: Since we have a genuine passion for cannabis and its many recreational and medicinal benefits, this was a serious option we had to consider. CBD was gaining popularity, we had a family member who was very ill, and we couldn’t find any genuine, high-quality CBD oil on the market at the time. None of the companies were selling exactly what they claimed on their packaging. When we tested a few of them, we discovered just how poor the quality was.

We’ve been making oils ourselves—with friends and family—for a long time, and this venture has led us to seriously consider expanding the brand with a high-quality CBD product at an affordable price. That’s something we always want to offer. The best quality at a reasonable price. Furthermore, what we’ve noticed is that (and they still do this) the advertised CBD percentages include CBDa. But there’s no evidence that CBDa is absorbed by the human body. Body temperature would need to be above 40 degrees Celsius to absorb it, but we wouldn’t survive at a body temperature like that… 😉

As a result, almost all companies promise a certain amount of CBD in their product, but it may not even be half that amount.

Our mission is to offer a wide variety of high-quality CBD products suitable for everyone. Whether you’re taking CBD as a sports supplement, for pain, skin issues, or any other imbalance in your body or mind. Try a good CBD product with the right dosage. Dosage is also important. We recommend getting used to the product over three days with a small dose, then increasing to a higher dose based on your needs. It’s natural—you can’t overdose on it.

Do you apply the same selection process as you do for your other products: exceptional quality, artisanal craftsmanship, and driven by modern science?

Yes. The most important thing for us was that we wanted a product that contained exactly what it says on the label. The products are pharmaceutical-grade, but always with a modern twist. The new skincare product is incredible; we also used pure organic argan oil for the CBD cream and a cream containing vitamins that act as antioxidants. So, the best of everything, for optimal skin recovery that results in healthy, soft skin!

Do you grow CBD plants in the Netherlands? Are they from your own strains?

We produce it in Switzerland from industrial hemp.

What is the CBD market like in the Netherlands? Since cannabis has always been around there, is there a place for CBD?

Yes, the good coffeeshops in Amsterdam, such as the Farm Boys always have CBD strains on their menu. More and more people are interested in these strains, which still contain THC—though only a small amount, around 2%.

The CBD market is doing very well; people are figuring out the right dosages and realizing that quality matters. Athletes are also excited about its benefits. We have combat sports athletes, professional cyclists, and many CrossFitters who use our CBD.

What is your best product?

Our entire product line is of the same high quality, but our CBD oil is still our best-seller. That’s because people are more familiar with CBD oil. But our CBD gummies are SO GOOD—I think they’re practically tied with the oil for the top spot.

Who is your main client?

We mainly sell to people around 35 years old—health-conscious individuals who exercise. We also have older customers, but I think most of their children buy the CBD products for them!

Are you planning to launch any new products soon?

Our latest innovation is our CBD Chocolate Thins, made from chocolate Original Beans, the concentration is very high, and the chocolate is delicious! It just came out! But our CBD tablets are among the easiest to take with you wherever you go. Easy to dose, fast-acting, and no one will notice you’re taking CBD instead of acetaminophen 😉

Is Supmedi a European project, or are you focusing on the Netherlands?

Yes, we sell a lot to the EU; our website is available in several languages: French, German, Dutch, and Spanish.

What advice would you give to a company that wants to sell CBD products?

Information and quality are essential. CBD is one of the most versatile dietary supplements in the world and should be available everywhere!

As the CBD industry becomes more competitive and widespread, what will set the best brands and products apart?

Definitely the quality and CBD content of each product. We have many varieties in our CBD line, so everyone will find their favorite CBD product after trying a few. We offer a wide range of products suitable for everyone.
