Europe's first CBD oil quality label
On January 15, the Cannabinoïden Adviesbureau Nederland (CAN) presented the first certification for CBD products in Europe.
The CBD (cannabidiol) is used every day by 40 to 45 million people in Europe, according to CAN. However, national and international regulations are lacking, failing to guarantee product quality and safety. This is why CAN has developed a label for CBD oil.
«With this CBD label, the Netherlands can once again be a leading country.» a declared August de Loor, founder and president of CAN, in his opening speech. Che quality label is a tool designed to build bridges between national and international legislation.
Traceability and transparency from CBD to finished product
To date, four laboratories meeting CAN requirements have been selected for product analysis. CBD oil producers will have to go through these analyses if they want to obtain the quality label.
To qualify for the label, the entire supply chain must be verifiable, from seed to final product. CAN is working with Novatrace, a non-profit organization that proposes and implements transparency solutions for goods and product quality standards. Novatrace will be in charge of managing the data associated with the products, as well as communicating it via a dedicated website.
Any violation or alteration of the label will be punishable by a fine of €10,000, with an additional €10,000 for each day during which the products in question continue to be sold. Affiliated companies must subscribe to these obligations when registering for the quality label.
Requirements to qualify for the label can be viewed here.
