Edelgreen: first European farm to obtain a permaculture label for its cannabis
With the rapid development of the cannabis industry, new strategies and technologies are constantly being developed to increase crop yields and profits, sometimes to the detriment of product quality and purity. Going against these trends, some producers are choosing to follow the rhythm of the land and the seasons, guaranteeing consumers healthy produce grown without pesticides or chemicals. This is the case, for example, of Edelgreen Swiss Farm, the first in Europe to be awarded the DEMpure label.
The DEMpure label, «beyond organic».»
The DEMpure label was created by the Canadian farmers of Dragonfly Earth Medicine. It not only guarantees organic production without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, but also the use of regenerative farming practices, otherwise known as permaculture, which are based on sustainability values. Farmers who decide to meet the demanding standards of this label respect the natural rhythm of the earth and create a living, closed-loop ecosystem. To achieve this, they work with micro-organisms such as worms and fungi, which improve the quality of the soil and produce their own products. fertilizers and nutrients which will be used to grow them from their waste.
This kind of sustainable cultivation requires a lot of hard work and patience, and it is to recognize this commitment and the quality of the products that go with it that this label was created. The aim is to guarantee consumers and the industry high-quality products obtained from sustainable, environmentally-friendly cultivation practices. Seduced by this commitment to quality and ecological principles, Edelgreen's Swiss breeders have adopted the label and made it their mission to ensure that its value is recognized throughout Europe. Edelgreen is the first company in Europe to be officially DEMpure certified.
Edelgreen Swiss Farm
Edelgreen Farm is run by passionate young farmers who are committed to offering the best possible product: «The way we grow our plants is the most important thing for us to consider, and it's through the constant quest to improve our work that we've come to understand that this approach is what's best for us and our plants. It's impossible to have a healthy product, free of synthetics, chemicals, insect pests or fungi/moulds, rich in terpenes and cannabinoids if we don't take into account the true workings of nature and the science that goes with it».
The farm is located on a family plot in the Geneva countryside. The Edelgreen team breeds CBD-rich genetics for the Swiss and European markets in accordance with the label's principles: animal and plant waste is composted to make fertilizer, water comes directly from a spring in the Swiss Alps and electricity from solar panels. What's more, the young farmers use soil dynamization techniques such as dynamic accumulators, which store the energy released by biomass and release it when needed, improving soil structure and quality.
