Dinafem Seeds is a Spanish seed bank founded in 2005 in the Basque Country by a group of growers and breeders who had been experimenting with genetics since the late 1980s. Their founding vision was to specialize exclusively in feminized seeds, which at the time were shunned by much of the cannabis community, which had little confidence in them. This vision quickly became a revolution—Dinafem established itself as Spain’s first professional feminized seed bank and one of the most influential in Europe.
The strains that made Dinafem a legend
Moby Dick is the quintessential Dinafem strain. A sativa-dominant hybrid resulting from a cross between a White Widow clone and sativa genetics from the company’s own collection, it produces plants that can exceed 3 meters outdoors and yield exceptional harvests. Its aromas of cedar, pine, and incense, combined with an intense cerebral high, make it one of the most imitated strains in the history of European seed banks.
Critical+ (Critical Plus) is the other mainstay of the catalog. Developed from Big Bud and Skunk genetics, it has established itself as one of the most widely grown strains in Spain thanks to its massive yields and fast flowering time. Dinafem has taken this a step further with **Critical+ 2.0**, a stabilized backcross that enhances the aromas and resin production while maintaining the productivity of the original.
Original Amnesia is Dinafem's take on a legendary Haze strain. Powerful, cerebral, and with a long flowering period that Sativa enthusiasts gladly accept, it has won numerous
awards and has become a leader in the European market for premium varieties.
Beyond these three pillars, the Dinafem catalog covers a wide range: OG Kush, Cheese, Blue Cheese, White Widow, Bubba Kush for traditional genetics; an XXL autoflowering line launched in 2009 with the Roadrunner Automatic; and a complete CBD line launched in 2015 featuring Critical Mass CBD, Shark Shock CBD, and Dinamed CBD—one of the first non-psychoactive strains on the European market with 15% CBD and 1% THC.
Innovation Is in Our DNA
Dinafem didn’t stop at producing classics. The seed bank was one of the first in Europe to export hemp genetics to the United States following the 2018 legalization, with Bubba Kush Hemp containing less than 0.3% of THC. It has also developed the Quick Version—fast-flowering strains designed for growers in challenging climates—and a range of American strains like Gorilla and Dinachem to bring US genetics closer to European growers without having to cross the Atlantic.
The Downfall of 2020 and the Rebirth Through Silent Seeds
In September 2020, a drug enforcement operation by Spanish authorities targeted Dinafem’s parent company, Pot Sistemak. Fourteen employees were arrested, the premises were raided, and distribution was brought to a sudden halt. The company was placed under judicial supervision and is legally barred from resuming seed sales until the trial is over.
After three years of silence, Silent Seeds is picking up the torch. Founded by part of Dinafem’s original team, Silent Seeds ensures the genetic continuity of the catalog—Moby Dick, Critical+2.0, and Original Amnesia are now distributed under the Silent Seeds banner. The legacy of 20 years of research and selection is preserved.
