The Netherlands has received 149 applications for cannabis cultivation licenses
The Dutch government has received 149 requests licenses to grow cannabis as part of the legal cultivation experiment that will provide coffeeshops in 10 Dutch cities.
Applications will now be submitted by the government, which recently announced that ‘a maximum of 10 producers» should be selected »at the beginning of 2021«.
The applications were accepted from July 1 to July 28.
Applicants had to submit various documents, including a cultivation proposal detailing their ability to grow at least 6,500 kilograms of flowers per year, as well as safety plans and an explanation of how they intend to grow.
Successful applicants will not be required to grow 6,500 kilograms during the trial, nor will they have to meet a production quota. On the contrary, the offer will regulate the quantity of cannabis offered on the market.
Mayors of municipalities where cannabis experimentation will take place will be invited to give their views on the possible implications for public order and safety. A negative opinion could lead to the disqualification of a candidate.
A random draw will be made from all accepted entries to determine the 10 winners.
