Marvina: the monthly cannabis box
The rise of subscription boxes has given rise to a plethora of options: beauty boxes, wine boxes, clothing boxes, etc. With the cannabis is legal in some U.S. states, a new offering has emerged: the monthly marijuana subscription box.
Marvina, a San Francisco-based company, has launched the first marijuana subscription box for patients with a prescription for medical marijuana. Each month, Marvina plans to deliver four weed varieties, and promises the «best cannabis in the world»—that is, rare and flavorful strains. All Americans have to do is send in their prescription and choose between sativa or indica, for a flat rate ranging from 95$ to 325$, depending on the quantity.
In each box, in addition to the strains of the month, subscribers will find an explanation of the effects of each type of cannabis, its flavor, and its history. Marvina’s website currently features the different strains of the month: Champagne (a strain that smells like sparkling wine), Green Ribbon, Alpha Blue, and Voodoo for sativas; Confidential Cheese, Holy Grail Kush, Animal Cookies and Avalon for the Indicas.
The service is currently available only in California, but it plans to expand rapidly into other cannabis-friendly states such as Colorado and Oregon.
Update as of January 7, 2016: Marvina closed its doors in October 2015. Patients treated with medical cannabis can turn to PotBox.
