The L630 association asks Dupond-Moretti to decriminalize medical cannabis
L630, a civil society organization campaigning for drug policy reform, questioned the new Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, last Friday. The association sends a letter calling for an end to legal proceedings for medical cannabis users or their caregivers.

«We've been working on public drug policy for many years. Every day, we have the opportunity to defend numerous users and to remind various courts of the incomprehensible nature of current prohibition. Yet we note that patients who use cannabis to alleviate their pain continue to be convicted. The same applies to their caregivers and loved ones, who are now taking an ill-considered criminal risk», explains the letter.
L630's proposal, which would pass by issuing a circular aimed at regional public prosecutors' offices, attempts to overcome the uncertainty surrounding the experimentation of medical cannabis in France.
Although the broad outlines should have been set by the end of 2019, the timetable has been postponed several times. At the beginning of June, the ANSM indicated that the decree required to authorize the experimentation was to be filed within 3 weeks. It has still not been filed.
The trial was due to start in September 2020. The ANSM is now announcing a postponement of the start of the trial «until January 2021 at the latest». The budget required for the trial, in the region of €4 to €20 million, has not yet been set.
«This first clear act would symbolically mark your appointment and would put into practice what you called for in your keynote speech. To ensure that not a single one of our patients is condemned, and because this is the simplest measure to implement, we hope to be able to count on your support,» concludes the letter.
