Colorado: the top 5 reasons for cannabis-related hospitalizations
Colorado legalized cannabis in November 2012, with legal recreational sales opening on January 1, 2014. The most liberal state in the US when it comes to cannabis, Colorado is regulating as experience dictates. For example, it has prohibits space sweets too similar to commercial confectionery.
In a study published in the’American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, researchers set out to observe cannabis-related emergency room visits in Colorado hospitals and found the 5 most common causes of cannabis-related hospitalizations.
Ingestion by a child
The main problem facing hospitals is the ingestion of cannabis by children. Whether he got his hands on a space cake or found a pellet on the floor, children are the most at risk in the home if their parents aren't careful with their products.
Although this is more of an individual responsibility, the State of Colorado now requires that the packaging of edibles is impossible for a child to open, does not display images that are attractive to a child, and is no longer in candy form.
Too much consumption
Here's a problem that has hit Colorado's cannabis tourists particularly hard: too much cannabis. Although cannabis has no known lethal human dose, its effects can be too strong for some.
«The number of emergency room visits has nearly doubled since legalization,» the study reads, «and the rate of visits is highest among non-residents of Colorado who come to visit the state.».
Cannabinoid syndrome
A little-known pathology cannabinoid syndrome usually occurs in long-term cannabis users. Symptoms include abdominal pain and nausea/vomiting. The pain passes momentarily by taking a hot shower, but stopping cannabis is necessary to stop the symptoms completely.
Synthetic cannabis
The substance itself has nothing to do with cannabis, but the authors have strangely included it in this study. We note that spices and other K2s are crap, and there's no good reason to test them.
Chemical apprentices
Licenses handed out to professional extractors haven't stopped Colorado residents from extracting at home. And sometimes, it goes wrong.
Although the solvent-based extractions The number of patients admitted to emergency departments for burns and other explosions has not fallen.
The pros, on the other hand, must use state-approved equipment. Which they do very well, given the monster slabs frequently seen on Instagram.
