Testing your cannabis in 30 seconds: soon possible
There are many ways to test the potency and composition of cannabis. Until now, professional and private growers have been able to rely on Alpha-Cat test kits, but an Israeli company will soon be offering a 2.0 solution.
Start-up GemmaCert to lift more than $2.2 million to launch the first generation of GemmaCert, a compact device for testing and analyzing the composition of cannabis flowers without degrading them, aimed at professionals, self-growers, cannabis dispensaries, cannabis patients and healthcare personnel.
The GemmaCert device is capable of analyzing both whole or roasted dried flowers and cannabis oils. It uses a combination of spectrometry, image analysis and data analysis.
Cannabis testing usually involves analyzing a sample from a batch. This method takes a lot of time and money, uses chemicals and ends with the destruction of the sample. The results obtained are valid for the sample, but not necessarily for the whole batch, which in countries with very strict THC standards can be dangerous for both producer and seller.
«GemmaCert wants to help overcome the current challenges posed by the variety of Cannabis, paving the way for reliable personalized dosing, and providing a solution to the unpredictability associated with cannabis efficacy. The funds raised will accelerate the implementation of our development plans, boost recruitment and lead us to generate first revenues in 2018″ explains Dr Guy Setton, co-founder and CEO of GemmaCert.
Once the cannabis has been analyzed, the THC and CBD levels detected are displayed on a dedicated smartphone app in less than a minute. Once the test is complete, the sample is still available for consumption.
Another advantage is the announced consistency of dosage, which is important for medical treatments. Israeli patients will be able to analyze their medical cannabis in greater detail.
The device is already on pre-order on the company website, at a price of 2500$. The video below gives a longer presentation of the device.
