What does 5-year-old weed look like?
It would seem that few people in France are capable of keeping a weed for 5 years. Firstly, because it's illegal, and secondly, because the average user buys to consume, rarely to save. In the case of self-cultivation, things are of course a little different.
Older weeds are normally more sedative. In contact with oxygen, the THC is transformed into cannabinol (CBN), a cannabinoid known for its relaxing and soothing properties.
Our colleagues at Weedmaps found a weed that had been kept for 5 years in a glass jar, never opened since 2012. So what is the result of this extraordinary preservation?
In terms of appearance, unsurprisingly, the heads have lost some of their beauty. The original green has turned khaki, while the trichomes are a perfect amber. To the touch, the stickiness of the resin has given way to a crisp version of the leaf, a little drier than it should be. At the time, Bovida didn't exist, but the trichomes still look melt-in-the-mouth and ready to be enjoyed.
After 5 years, the weed in question contains 18.8% of THC and a little more CBN than average, 0.6% according to the tests. This small amount of CBN will be able to deliver its relaxing effects, ideal at the end of the day.
The terpenes are undoubtedly the elements that break down first, but this weed still contains quite a lot of limonene and myrcene, which will show up on tasting. Even if the aromas are a little flatter than they were originally, they haven't completely disappeared.
Conclusion? Oldie is goodie. As long as there is no mold, No reason to leave it in its jar for life.
