United States: 57 to 72 billion in cannabis sales by 2030
It's a green gold rush. The American firm New Frontier Data predicts a rain of dollars for the cannabis industry. According to his calculations, published in a recent report, Americans will buy $57 billion worth of cannabis by 2030. At present, «only» $32 billion is sold each year.
According to analysts, the total sales figure could even rise to 72 billion if the 18 states that have begun the legalization process go the distance. The firm attributes this solid growth to «standardization» and a «Society's recognition of the plant's therapeutic virtues and well-being». He's not even waiting for legalization at the federal level, since the bills are bogged down.
«The profound shift in public perception around cannabis is due in part to the fact that more and more Americans have access to legal, and regulated, markets.», explains the firm's CEO in the press release. One in three Americans has legal access to cannabis, for all adults, or for the sick.
From 47 million consumers today to 71 in 2030
The logical consequence of this acceptance is that the number of consumers is set to increase. New Frontier estimates 47 million consumers in the United States in 2020. This should rise to 71 million by 2030. However, there are two nuances to this calculation.
First, the report calls for «consumer» a person who has used cannabis at least once in the year. Next, «five of the ten states with the most consumers are still years away from legalizing recreational cannabis». In all cases, the number of consumers will be interesting to follow, as the experts are divided on the issue.
To arrive at all these figures, the firm tries to determine growth in existing markets... but also when the next states will legalize. The result is a very interesting graph. For example, Kentucky, which has voted a few days ago a law to authorize medical cannabis... is unlikely to be legalized before 2030. We'll just have to be patient.
On the other hand, 2022 should be the year for New Hampshire and Maryland. In the former state, successive bills have been pending for four years now. fail to pass every step of the way. In the second, the first texts were born in 2017. Proof that it takes time to legalize cannabis.
