United Kingdom: a «cannabis tea party» organized today in front of Parliament
The UK's cannabis law reform movement will be protesting outside Parliament this morning in support of Paul Flynn MP as he introduces legislation to allow the therapeutic use of cannabis.
And what could be more logical than for the English to organize a tea party ?
Jon Liebling, from the United Patients Alliance and organizer of the rally, explained at the Mirror The idea was to do something terribly English and non-threatening - so we're having a tea party.
Most participants will use legal CBD oil, but organizers expect some infusions and other cakes to be lightly infused with THC.
«We want to change history. We estimate that there are 3 million regular cannabis users in the UK today with the primary reason for consumption being therapeutic use.»
«There will be people with serious, chronic pathologies who need treatment, who will travel.
Organizers are expecting a few hundred people, including cancer and multiple sclerosis sufferers. Paul Flynn is expected to join them after his hearing in Parliament.
Paul Flynn's bill is unlikely to pass. The British government has previously refused to move forward on the subject despite a petition that gathered 235,000 signatures, and speaks of cannabis in unambiguous terms: «a harmful substance that can damage health».
Genevieve Edwars, from MS Society, We believe that cannabis should be legal for medical use by people with multiple sclerosis to relieve pain and muscle spasms when other treatments have not worked.«
«72% of people with multiple sclerosis believe that cannabis should be legalized for therapeutic purposes. Other countries such as Germany and Canada have already done so in a safe and controlled way, and we think the UK government should follow suit. It would make a real difference to the lives of tens of thousands of MS sufferers who could potentially benefit from it.».
Paul Flynn had recently incited his fellow citizens to break the law and smoking cannabis in Parliament.
