15 Italian MPs announce that they will be growing cannabis at home
Fifteen members of parliament have launched a unique initiative to campaign for the legalization of cannabis: they are growing cannabis at home. The Italian Court of Cassation recently ruled that growing small amounts of cannabis for personal use could not be pursued, and members of Congress are calling for the decision to be respected.
«In a time of economic uncertainty like the one we’re going through, we can’t afford to ignore the benefits that legalization would bring to our country,» says Antonella Soldo, coordinator of Meglio Legale, the pro-legalization campaign that, among other things, provided the seeds to members of parliament.
Four lawmakers made a video to showcase their home gardening, including Leonardo Aldo Penna, a member of the Five Star Movement (M5S), who filmed himself planting a cannabis seed.
The pro-cannabis parliamentary movement brought together lawmakers from the Democratic parties, the Five Star Movement, and +Europa.

Most of them gathered on June 25 at Montecitorio for a sit-in with various organizations to demand the legalization of cannabis. Among the 15 lawmakers who grow cannabis is Matteo Mantero, a signatory to a bill to legalize cannabis in Italy, and very active on the topic of CBD.
At the same time, 100 members of parliament sent a letter to Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, asking him to address the issue of cannabis in the broadest sense during the upcoming General Assembly—namely, the insufficient production of medical cannabis in Italy, the need to break the deadlock on CBD hemp and expand the role of hemp in the context of the ecological transition and the legalization of cannabis.
