Plantz.io launches Cannavec.ai, a cannabis knowledge API
During the Cannabis Europa Paris 2026, the British platform Plantz.io unveiled Cannavec.ai, presented as the first IPA of evidence-based cannabis knowledge designed for the cannabis industry. This new service offers clinics, technology platforms, brands and researchers direct access to a vast, constantly updated database covering the scientific, regulatory and cultural aspects of cannabis.
The project is based on the work of the Cannabis Knowledge Foundation (CKF), an editorially independent organization of patients and industry experts. Thanks to a simple API integration, Cannavec.ai enables organizations to integrate factual, verified cannabis knowledge into their own digital tools without having to create a proprietary database from scratch.
A global cannabis knowledge base accessible via an API
According to Plantz.io, database, the Cannabis Knowledge Foundation compiles information from thousands of clinical studies and industry sources. The knowledge base covers a wide range of topics, including cannabis pharmacology, the medical and therapeutic uses, clinical data, regulations and compliance, as well as cultural and historical aspects of the plant.
The system is structured as a vector-store knowledge base, a format designed to power AI-based applications. Thanks to Cannavec.ai, companies can connect to this infrastructure to develop their own AI-based cannabis tools, ranging from patient information platforms to clinical decision support systems.
The database already feeds Herbie, the AI assistant integrated into the platform Plantz.io, which provides evidence-based answers to patients' questions about cannabis-based treatments.
The ambition of this API is to simplify access to reliable cannabis knowledge across the industry. Rather than investing resources in creating in-house research databases, companies can integrate the API and focus on developing their own products or services.
A system continuously updated and validated by humans
One of the key features highlighted by the project's creators is the way in which the knowledge base is maintained. Instead of functioning as a static database, the knowledge base is continuously updated by a combination of AI search agents and human editors.
These automated systems analyze clinical literature, regulatory updates and industry sources to identify new information. However, all inputs must be validated by human experts before being added to the database, a process designed to maintain editorial standards and guarantee the accuracy of the information.
The editorial board of Cannabis Knowledge Foundation includes patients, advocates and data scientists with experience in the medical marijuana. According to the foundation, this governance model is designed to ensure that the knowledge base remains independent and free from commercial influence, This is an important issue in a sector where it can be difficult to verify the reliability of information.
Supporting innovation in the medical cannabis ecosystem
Thanks to its API structure, Cannavec.ai is designed to serve a wide range of users across the cannabis ecosystem, including clinics, researchers, technology platforms and cannabis brands.
The service is offered at a range of pricing levels, from corporate subscriptions to more affordable packages for start-ups and advocacy groups. Plantz.io also specifies that reduced-rate access will be offered to non-profit patient organizations, recognizing the role that patient communities have played in the development of the medical cannabis sector.

Chris Hobday & Neil Cartwright
«The Cannabis Knowledge Foundation is a revolution in healthcare. A vector-based knowledge base is at the heart of AI, giving patients, clinics and the entire cannabis supply chain access to a vast amount of research. It embodies a vision of the future where companies can develop their own services from an evidence-based knowledge base managed by an independent editorial team, meaning users can trust the information to be unbiased. It took over a year to set up, but is now available to pioneering companies advancing medical cannabis as an important treatment for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, epilepsy and chronic pain,» said Neil Cartwright, co-founder of Plantz.io.
Chris Hobday, editor-in-chief of Cannabis Knowledge Foundation, also emphasized the patients' perspective in this project:
«I am extremely proud and honored, in my dual capacity as a patient and industry expert, to be working with Plantz.io and the exceptional team that has come together to support and develop its AI system. Being able to bring a holistic perspective that reflects both patient needs and industry requirements marks a significant step forward. This is a truly revolutionary moment for the sector.»
With Cannavec.ai, Plantz.io wants to position its knowledge infrastructure as a common layer for the medical cannabis sector, at a time when the demand for reliable, science-based information on regulated markets continues to grow.

A major technological advance for the credibility of our industry. The arrival of Cannavec.ai proves that the cannabis industry is entering an era of maturity, where scientific data is finally taking precedence over empiricism.
The most crucial aspect here is not just AI, but human validation by the Cannabis Knowledge Foundation. Guaranteeing universal access to sourced clinical and regulatory information is the best way to reassure healthcare professionals and provide serene support for patients. A fine example of innovation in the service of ethics and transparency. Fabien CBDtech
