Kokopelli wants everyone to re-authorize hemp cultivation
The French organization Kokopelli, known for distributing royalty-free, reproducible seeds, has decided to take action to make CBD hemp freely available.
In fact, since the’order of December 30, 2021 Under the law that partially regulates hemp, growing hemp is prohibited for private individuals and permitted only for «active farmers.» For private individuals, only possession and consumption remain legal; however, growing one’s own CBD—indoors or outdoors—is prohibited.
Kokopelli, which advocates, among other things, for universal access to all seeds, has therefore launched a online petition which will serve as the basis for political action with various ministries in an effort to overturn the ban on growing hemp for personal use. The goal is to have this ban on cultivation lifted for cannabis varieties with a THC content below the legal limit, which is currently set at 0.3%.
Until everyone is legally allowed to grow their own plants, the association advises purchasing CBD flowers from local growers or stores that sell their products. It also recommends asking brick-and-mortar or online stores for organic farming certificates when they are advertised. Kokopelli also encourages people to grow their own CBD whenever possible and within the limits of the law.
The organization will host a live event on this topic on December 14.
Kokopelli is widely known for its numerous acts of civil disobedience aimed at breaking the global seed banks’ monopoly on seeds, which it considers to be a common good. However, it has been criticized on several occasions for the views of its founder or by former employees who complained about their working conditions.
