Harry Styles' Tee-Shirt creates controversy
Harry Styles, famous singer of the boy band One Direction who has since launched his solo career, was spotted in Idaho wearing a T-shirt marked Higgs, a product from the Californian brand The New Smoker. The brand specializes in cannabis-derived products and also markets fashion accessories, clothing and cosmetics in a chic New Age style.
The product Higgs in question is presented as a pack of seven cigarettes, but actually contains pre-rolled joints that mimic the design of classic cigarettes. The star has been accused by some of being an apologist for cannabis.
As for Harry Styles, he is of legal age under US law and resides in California, where cannabis is now legal in all its forms. The fact that this incident took place in Idaho, one of the few remaining states with no medical or recreational cannabis laws, may have fueled the controversial aspect of his appearance. However, in the pro-legalization climate of the United States, it seems surprising that reactions are so virulent. The problem may also be linked to the fact that the singer's audience is predominantly made up of teenagers.
That said, some Internet users are coming to the star's defense on Twitter.
