DelleD – LaFleur is one of the most unique stories in French medical cannabis: that of a patient who has had multiple sclerosis since the age of 18 and who, in the absence of suitable treatments, decided to build his own laboratory to develop them. Founded in 2014 in Paris and later based in Angers, this biotech company with 25 employees embodies—better than any other player—the vision of 100% French medical cannabis, from the genetic selection of strains to the final pharmaceutical formulations.
Franck Milone Delacourt was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 18. Decades later, in 2014, he founded DelleD in the Paris region
with an unexpected initial venture: the development and marketing of horticultural LEDs, at a time when HPS lamps still dominated greenhouse lighting.
This expertise in artificial lighting for plant cultivation is not just a side project: it has become the technological foundation for everything that follows. DelleD has developed Hortimind AI, a proprietary solution for smart climate chambers that automates monitoring and optimization
crops. When applied to cannabis, this technology offers precise control over growing parameters that few growers can match.
In 2014, Milone also founded LaFleur Laboratories, the pharmaceutical division of DelleD, with a goal explicitly focused on patients:
to develop cannabis-based medications for people who have not responded to treatment—a group that includes himself, as a patient with MS.
Since 2017, DelleD-LaFleur has been collaborating with the CNRS in Strasbourg to develop cannabis-based medical solutions for oncology. In 2018, the company began developing the first cannabis-based drug ever initiated in France, in partnership with the CNRS.
The company is the first to secure public funding from BPI (Bpifrance) for the development of a cannabis-based medication in France—a significant institutional endorsement at a time when the subject remains taboo within the French government.
In 2020, DelleD raised 3 million euros from a private investor and moved to Angers, France’s capital of specialized plant-based products and home to Agrocampus Ouest (Institut Agro Rennes-Angers), with which it established a corporate chair titled «AgroHealth Innovation.».
As part of the Cannatech project, which is receiving 800,000 euros in funding from the Pays de la Loire Region, DelleD-LaFleur is importing 500 cannabis cuttings—one of the first operations of its kind in France. These cuttings are being used in the company’s Hortimind IA climate-controlled chambers for strain selection and genetic stabilization.
At the same time, the company is developing a connected inhaler in partnership with RYAH—a medical device that accurately measures inhaled doses and collects real-world clinical data.
