Carb cap
Accessory for dabbing which restricts airflow and traps heat around nails or bangers without dom, allowing the cannabis concentrate to vaporize at a lower temperature, preserving the concentrate's quality and flavor.
What is the purpose of carb caps?
The carb cap was invented by Task Rok, founder of dab accessory company Highly Educated, in 2013. The term carb cap comes from the word carburetor. A carb cap is to a dabber what a carburetor is to a car. Just as a carburetor controls the flow of air and therefore the pressure around an engine, a carb cap controls the flow of air and therefore the pressure around a dab.
Different types of fuel caps
Although the functionality of all caps is the same - trapping heat and lowering the temperature at which dabs vaporize - there are a number of different types and styles that are ideal for different dabbing configurations.
Among the most popular types of corks are
Standard carburettor plugs
Standard caps are simple, with a rounded end to act as a stopper and a handle to hold during the dabbing process.
Bubble caps
Named for their bubble shape, bubble plugs have hollow stems that extend from both the top and bottom of the plug, creating the carburetor. They are designed to work with the flat-topped quartz plug. The rounded shape creates a seal against the flat top, allowing the concentrate to vaporize faster. The rounded shape creates a seal against the flat top, allowing the concentrate to evaporate faster. The shape also makes it easy for carb cap users to rotate the cap, enabling concentrate to be moved more quickly across the cap. banger (known as chasing), which makes for a more efficient dab.
Directional plugs
Directional flow carburetor caps also create a seal on banger nails, but a directional flow carburetor cap features a carburetor hole and a thin, angled stem that extends from the bottom of the cap. When turned, the airflow created by the stem will chase the concentrate around the surface of the nail, allowing it to vaporize faster.
In terms of materials, most carb caps are made of titanium, quartz or glass.
How do I use a carb cap?
Step 1: Apply a small amount to the heated surface of the nail or the banger.
Step 2: Cover the nail or firecracker with the carburettor cap.
Step 3: If you're using a directional flow or bubble cap, turn it gently, which will distribute the concentrate over the surface of the nail, pushing the airflow around the chamber. If you're using a standard dab tool with a carb cap or a cap with a flat base, use a gentle up-and-down motion to control the airflow.
Step 4: When you're ready to inhale the steam, remove the carburettor cap to release your device.
Where to buy a carb cap
Carbon caps have no other use than as a dab accessory. So you'll only find them in physical head shops or online.
The advantages of using a carb cap
The main advantage of using a carb cap is that it enables concentrates to be sprayed at a much lower temperature. When the nail of a dab rig is heated to an extremely high temperature - torches can heat the nail to over 500°C - this can effectively destroy the taste and potency of the dab, leaving the dabbers with burnt, ineffective steam.
By using a low-temperature carb cap, heated to between 150 and 200°C, consumers can enjoy the full flavor and taste profile of the concentrate while preserving the terpenes, thus preserving the therapeutic and intoxicating effects of the concentrate.
