Light, legal cannabis arrives in France
Following in the footsteps of our Swiss neighbors, cannabis varieties with high doses of cannabidiol (CBD) and very low doses of THC, in compliance with French legislation (-0.2% THC), are coming onto the market from Switzerland. The company Sweetweed already markets CBD cannabis strains and CBD resins, with approximately 15% of CBD and -0.2% of THC, as well as infusions.
What's the difference with hemp?
These varieties have been bred from «cannabis THC» plants and crossed with «cannabis CBD» plants to gradually lower the THC level, below legal limits Swiss (1% THC) then European (0.2% THC).
The main advantage of this method is that it preserves the aromas of the original varieties, whereas industrial hemp has a very grassy taste.
These varieties are also much higher in CBD than industrial hemp.
What effects can we expect?
In Switzerland, these products are sold as tobacco equivalents. Consumed in cigarettes, vaporized or in herbal tea, they deliver the effects of CBD, with soothing, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
With THC levels below 0.2%, no psychoactive effects are felt. The effect will be similar to CBD e-liquids with a taste of weed.
Is it really legal?
As all French industrial hemp growers know, the French legal framework strictly restricts the use of hemp flowers (including importation and commercial use), and prohibits any product with a THC content higher than 0.2%.
On the other hand, European law, which prevails over French law on this point, does not restrict the use of hemp to certain parts of the plant, and, like French law, authorizes trade in products with a THC content of less than 0.2% THC.
