Poll: 55% of Americans consider cannabis legalization a successful policy
A majority of Americans believe that cannabis legalizations are a success, according to a recent Yougov study.
YouGov surveyed more than 27,000 adults in the U.S. to ask them whether they «think regulation has been a success or a failure» in the American states where cannabis has been legalized for recreational purposes.

55% of respondents to the survey, published on Monday April 20 for the 420, The majority of respondents to the survey said that regulated cannabis markets are either complete successes or more of a success than a failure. 13% said they were more of a failure than a success, and only 6% said they were a complete failure.
Interestingly, while only 11 states currently allow adult-use cannabis sales, there was no significant variation in responses between residents of different geographical areas.
On the other hand, disparities exist according to respondents' political positions. Democrats are the most likely to say legalization has been successful or partly successful (67%), followed by independents (54%) and Republicans (41%).
As more and more US states choose to legalize cannabis, public opinion supports regulation at the same pace. Gallup released a poll in 2018 that showed that 64% of Americans were now in favor of a change in policy.
Support for the legalization of medical cannabis is even greater. YouGov released a poll last month showing that a majority of Americans agreed that dispensaries should be considered essential services and remain open during the coronavirus pandemic.
Most Americans (53%) believe medical marijuana dispensaries should be considered essential services.
Democrats (62%) are more likely than Independents (52%) and Republicans (43%) to say this.
