Zimbabwe sets aside 10 million $ for its cannabis production plant
At least $10 million has been set aside for the construction of the very first medical cannabis production facility in Mazowe, Zimbabwe, according to local sources.
The plant will be operated by NIRCAN ZW Ltd, a subsidiary of the British group NIRCOM A.S.I.G, which has already applied to the Zimbabwean government for a license to cultivate and export medical cannabis. Exports will depart from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
The issuance of the license will lead to the establishment of the Center for Culture and Medical Cannabis in Mazowe. Of the $10 million allocated for the project, $4 million will be dedicated to building a 5-hectare facility, in addition to outdoor cultivation facilities.
The remainder will be allocated to the company's working capital.
The Zimbabwe legalized it earlier this year the production, processing, and export of cannabis for scientific and medical purposes. Recreational use remains prohibited.
