Ladies of Paradise: a clever blend of fashion, feminism and cannabis
Ladies of Paradise is A creation and events agency Focusing on fashion, women, and weed. Led by a small group of cannabis-loving fashionistas, the agency organizes themed parties, photoshoots, maintains a blog, and even has a small shop in Portland, Oregon, where it sells accessories and clothing.
A Girl Gang
It's thanks to the happy convergence of the Instagram trend, the increasing widespread legalization of cannabis in the United States, and the rise of feminism that this small group of entrepreneurs has found success. Led by independent photographer Harlee Case and stylist Jade Daniels, two friends united by their love of cannabis and retro fashion, the project evolved from a Simple Instagram feed to a true lifestyle brand. Besides cannabis and style, Ladies of Paradise is founded on female mutual aid and aims to create a space for and by women within the cannabis community.
All of these ladies wears several hats and learned everything on the job. Keasha, the assistant creator who also manages the store, social media, and set design, explains: «Creating a safe space for women in the community is so important. It's really something we keep in mind when we organize events and even within our store.» She adds that she particularly appreciates the sense of community that emerges from the events: «I think it's rare to have so many similar people in the same place smoking good weed. It can only be magical.».
Revisit cannabis events
On the menu for the evenings are colorful wigs and glitter, polaroids, vintage clothes and disco balls, food, drinks, and most importantly, smoking. At these events, alcohol is replaced by cannabis, and special attention is paid to the party atmosphere. Each event has a theme that is exploited and explored through interactive installations, decorations, and costumes. For Leighana, the Chief Operating Officer and event coordinator, these parties are a brand-new genre of cannabis events: «we are completely changing the perception of cannabis events as they currently exist. We are seeking to create a real experience, not just a dab bar or a cannabis lounge« .
«As someone who enjoys smoking cannabis and doesn't like going to bars, I noticed there was a lack of events for people like me and I wanted to create them,» she adds. «I love creating an atmosphere where people can not only have fun and enjoy themselves, but also where I can create a unique experience and a safe space, not just for women but for everyone.» To stay true to her ethics, the agency only works with brands and partners in which she believes and whose approach she supports.
