Ireland considers how to decriminalize marijuana
This week, the’Ireland has appointed Aodhán Ó Ríordáin as its new Secretary of State for Anti-Drug Strategy. His first task: to examine whether drug laws should be relaxed.
«I believe that an addicted person should be dealt with by the healthcare system, not the judicial system,» he said, echoing Barack Obama's words. «Prison guards would no doubt agree with me on this point. Today, we have an opportunity to change the way the Misuse of Drugs Act which dates back to 1971, through new legislation.»
However, he did not dwell on which option Ireland might choose between the decriminalization and legalization, a subject that still needs to be debated.
And he'd better give it some thought, if he doesn't want to repeat the Irish blunder that had legalized ecstasy, ketamine, hallucinogenic mushrooms and other drugs accidentally for 24 hours.

«Ireland would consider decriminalizing»: not very French... «consentirait à», possibly.
