Drug traffickers' endless inspiration to smuggle weed
Marijuana is still illegal in most parts of the world. To smuggle cannabis discreetly, traffickers sometimes have to get (very) creative.
Cannabuche for Winter
On February 18, 2017, Fox News reports the seizure of approximately 45 kilos of marijuana in Arizona. The drugs were hidden inside logs that had been specially cut to accommodate the packages. The drugs had already crossed the border, and it was a drug-sniffing dog that enabled the police to intercept the drug shipment.
Lemons
On February 9, 2017, CNN reported that a shipment of approximately 1.7 metric tons of marijuana was seized at the Mexican border. The entire shipment was concealed inside 34,000 fake limes. The vehicle was stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. The sheriff who made the arrest estimates that he seized approximately 800,000$ of marijuana belonging to the K-9 Cartel.
Carrots
In January 2016, 1.16 metric tons Cannabis has been seized in Texas. Some packages contained fake carrots filled with marijuana. In the packages containing real carrots, there were also packets of cannabis. What's new, doc?
Watermelons
In another incident in Texas, 1.3 metric tons of cannabis were seized from fake watermelons.
Coconut
In May 2016, 999 plastic coconuts containing nearly 2,000 250-gram packages of weed were seized as they were being shipped from Mexico. Where was that? In Texas
And closer to home?
When it comes to exporting cannabis, our drug traffickers are a bit short on ideas. With no time for fake fruit, they prefer to hide it directly inside real merchandise.
On March 8, 2017, 300 kg of hashish were seized from a shipment containing 13 metric tons of apples and oranges. According to *Le Parisien*, the fruit was handed over to the food bank .
And just this week, 1.3 metric tons of resin had unfortunately ended up in a truck carrying lettuce. French customs officials intercepted it at the Spanish border and took the truck driver away in a police van.
